Bangkok 1, Thailand - July 30th through August 2nd, 2009

Late arrival in the Thai capital: the constrast is stunning between a rather developed Thailand and is Cambodian neighbour.
I find a certain pleasure and comfort in getting to a place I already know for having been there several years ago. Even though the city has dramatically changed, with many new buildings and infrastructures, I feel comfortable right away. The Cambodian coach drops us near the backpackers heaven, the tourist ghetto.
It's already late: I don't feel brave enough to go across town with my bags; I choose the first hotel: I am exhausted from my journey from Saigon; after a quick dinner, I go to sleep rather early.
The following day, Friday July 31st, I meet up with Tarek who joins me in Thailand. I met him in Cairo where he hosted me. We spend the first few days going around Bangkokian streets (Bangkoker? Bangkokite? Bangkokan? You choose). Those who have traveled with me are well aware that my sense of direction isn't always perfect; Tarek's sense of direction seems even worse than mine: we therefore spend a nice chump of our time trying to find our way; this allows us to discover amazing sights unseen by tourists (who do not get lost as much as we do)
We visit several shopping malls (both having a shopping list): Siam Square, Silom Road and the Patpong night market (also known for its erotic or pornographic ping-pong). Unfortunately, none of us is talented for shopping: we are unable to find anything and are feeling rather frustrated after this shopping attempt; we dropped before we shopped. It's so much easier online ;)
We find a crazy concert hall among those monster shopping malls: you'll find our amateurish videos here; if you are looking for a video of a better quality with the same artists, click here!
Tired and exhausted by Bangkok's fabulous energy, we decide to go to the sea! After hesitating for a (very) long time between Pattaya, Phuket and Krabi, we leave our hotel to go to Pattaya... and then change our mind one last time to go to the airport to take a Bangkok-Phuket flight.
Phuket and its beautiful tropical paradise of the Andaman sea, here we come!
